This Summer, LOOKOUT! Players is pleased to announce that the famed anti-war classic Johnny Got His Gun, will premiere at the Eagle Theatre in Old Sacramento. Originally adapted for the stage by Bradley Rand Smith from Dalton Trumbo's historic 1939 novel, Johnny Got His Gun recently won two 2004 L.A. Drama Critics Circle Awards, including best adaptation.

"In this current political climate, this play is once again of vital importance, examining as it does the balance between patriotism and individual lives," said Pérez Gonzalez who just closed the production in New York City. "It gives me great pleasure to be a part of bringing this timely and pertinent story to my home town of Sacramento," he added.

As he lies paralyzed in bed, the tragic truth hits 20 year old Joe Bonham that his left arm has been removed due to a bomb blast. He then quickly learns they have also removed his right arm, both legs, his eyes, his tongue, his lower jaw, teeth, and ears. Bonham's most poignant loss however, is the loss of his ability to communicate with the rest of the world. LOOKOUT! Players has recruited up-and-coming actor Ricardo Pérez Gonzalez to play Joe.

On stage Joe is presented as he sees himself in his memories and fantasies and Pérez Gonzalez delves deep into the psyche of a complex being alienated and isolated from those around him. Local actress and director, Regina Cabral Jones will oversee artistic direction.

"This is a story that forces us stop and think about what we are doing in the world," said Joseph Jelincic, a founding member of LOOKOUT! Players.

Johnny Got His Gun will run at the Eagle Theatre (925 Front Street, Old Sacramento) August 6th - 28th on Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8pm. Tickets are only $12 general admission, and $10 for students, seniors (65+) and SARTA members.
